Premier on Cabinet Reshuffle

Prime Minister Peter Medgyessy said, in an interview with Hungarian public television on Tuesday, he was pleased with the job of the leaving ministers but the changing times bring new requirements and a need for freshness.
Prime Minister Medgyessy named four new ministers when he announced a reshuffle of his cabinet in Parliament on Monday. He set up the post of minister without portfolio in charge of equal opportunities fulfilled by Katalin Levai, leader of the Ministry of Labour's equal opportunities directorate. Medgyessy also stated that Miklos Persanyi will take over as Minister of Environment and Water Management from Maria Korodi, Ferenc Gyurcsany will replace Gyorgy Janosi as Minister of Children, Youth and Sports, and Istvan Hiller will take over as Minister of Cultural Heritage from Gabor Gorgey.
The Premier said he did not want to wait until the work of the cabinet becomes out of date. He said it was important to put persons in positions who can bring the freshness that people want.
"The government's job is to search for solutions to problems, but not to irritate people day by day," Medgyessy said, stressing that his ideal government was one which made everything possible so that people could lead peaceful lives free from harassments.
