Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai met the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan
The official visit of President Sargsyan opens a new chapter in our bilateral cooperation. Both of parties emphasised the traditionally excellent relations between the two countries and the positive role of the Armenian minority in this process.
During the talks Prime Minister Bajnai and his Armenian counterpart have reviewed the actual questions of economic and commercial cooperation. Our bilateral trade contacts have been continuously developing, but investments are still far behind the actual potential. During the talks several fields have been mentioned, where there are good opportunities to widen the bilateral relations. These are the fields of energy, infrastructure, economy, trade and also culture and education. During the negotions our contractual relationship also widened.
Intergovernmental agreement on avoiding double taxation, interministerial cooperation on agriculture and a jurisdictional partnership agreement have been signed. Recently Armenia and the Caucasian region have regained significant importance also geopolitically. The European Union also attaches significance to this region which is proved by the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Armenia and EU, the European Neighbourhood Policy and recently by the Eastern Partnership. Through bilateral relations and activities in different integrations and international organizations Hungary wishes to contribute to the stability and security of the region, as well as to its dynamic development. After their bilateral meeting Prime Minister Bajnai and President Sargsyan in the company of Armenian businessmen discussed the Hungarian-Armenian investment opportunities. The negotiating parties also underlined the importance of intensive dialogue in the field of business and economy and both expressed their support.
